Nurse Educator & Expert Witness

Clinical Expertise. Clear Guidance.

Jeffrey Metzler, MSN, RN, CNE, GERO-BC, CAC

I am a master’s-prepared Registered Nurse and Academic Nurse Educator with three national certifications and over a decade of clinical experience. I currently practice in a rural 25-bed critical access hospital. As a critical access hospital nurse, I provide quality nursing care with limited resources in a wide variety of clinical arenas.

Due to the small size of our facility, we do not have separately managed units. Thus, my day-to-day role includes providing care to patients in emergency, outpatient, med/surg, skilled care, and intermediate swing bed settings – sometimes all in 1 shift! Therefore, I have a deep understanding of how rural hospital escalation pathways and resource limitations differ from larger, urban facilities.

While I care for patients across the lifespan, my specialty is working with geriatric patients and those living with dementia. Therefore, I am very familiar with fall prevention interventions, fall assessments, caring for skin tears, and ensuring quality nursing care for patients who are often unable to advocate for themselves.

As a nursing professor, I am well-versed and experienced in routinely breaking down complex nursing concepts into clear explanations for learners from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. This also allows me to provide clear and objective explanations to triers-of-fact in both plaintiff and defense cases.
